Inspiration: Scandroid

One of my biggest inspirations when it comes to this retro-futuristic style (and also the first one that got me into it) is the music project Scandroid. Their artwork inspired me to create my first own robotic characters, adding them to their short story and creating my own stories based on them.

Their music, as well as the artwork, is highly inspired by 80's combined with sci-fi technologies, creating a damaged, pre-apocalyptic society in the future, humans who are genetically mutated to be better than normal humans, robots and overall loss of humanity from the world.

For me, the most appealing element of the artwork is the lights implemented into human bodies and clothing. The other thing I want to use in my design is grey/colour neutral clothing with neon, colourful details because it looks impressive combined with other lights from the environment.

In the picture above we can see the combination of robots and altered humans in the futuristic society, where only the higher class of people were allowed to go to upper Neo-Tokyo to live life inspired by "old" society from the past with the values of no genetical modifications or robots and left the rest in poverty and trash.

In these pictures, we can see metal elements used in the clothing design as well as the lack of colours on the fabric.

The narrative of these illustrations reminds me of Spielberg's film A.I." Artificial Intelligence, where the plot consisted of humans creating robots while destroying themselves, giving robots feelings and then neglecting them and also a part of society excluding themselves from the robots in their life. I think the Scandroid characters are very well designed to represent the story and the world they live in while still being based on the creators of the project.
